Working Principles of Electrostatic Powder Spray Guns

An electrostatic powder spray gun uses the principles of electrostatics to evenly coat a surface with powder paint. The working process mainly involves four steps: powder feeding, electrostatic charging, powder spraying, and curing.
  1. Powder Feeding
: The powder paint is conveyed to the spray gun through the powder feeding system. This system typically consists of a powder feeder and delivery lines, maintaining a consistent pressure and flow rate of the powder paint.
  1. Electrostatic Charging
: A high-voltage electrostatic generator inside the spray gun creates a high-voltage electrostatic field. As the powder paint passes through the gun, it is charged by a corona discharge device (electrode at the nozzle), usually acquiring a negative charge.
  1. Powder Spraying
: The charged powder particles are sprayed out of the gun and move towards the workpiece under the influence of the electrostatic field. Since the workpiece is grounded, it creates a positive potential relative to the negatively charged powder particles, attracting them to its surface.
  1. Curing
: The powder coating on the workpiece needs to be cured by heating. The workpiece is placed in an oven, where the powder paint melts, flows, and solidifies into a durable coating at a temperature typically between 180°C and 200°C.
