Powder Coating Precautions

创建于2023.11.06
Powder coating is a process where powder coating material is applied to the surface of a workpiece using specialized equipment to create a powder coating layer. This layer is then cured and leveled through high-temperature baking, resulting in a final coating with various properties. Powder coating offers advantages in terms of mechanical strength, adhesion, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance compared to traditional painting processes, while also being cost-effective. However, there are certain precautions to be aware of in the powder coating process:
  1. Surface Preparation:
To fully utilize the characteristics of powder coating and extend the service life of the coating, thorough surface preparation of the workpiece is essential.
  1. Grounding for Efficiency:
During spraying, it is important to ensure that the workpiece is properly grounded to maximize the efficiency of the powder coating process.
  1. Surface Smoothness:
For workpieces with significant surface imperfections, it is advisable to apply conductive putty to ensure the coating's smoothness and uniformity.
  1. Temperature and Time:
After the coating process, the workpiece must undergo heating and curing. The curing conditions, including temperature and time, must meet the technical specifications of the powder product to prevent under-curing that could lead to quality issues.
  1. Inspection for Defects:
Inspect the workpiece immediately after powder coating. If defects are found, address them promptly. If minor defects are discovered after curing, local repairs can be made using the same color powder diluted with acetone. If the defects are extensive, the workpiece should be sanded and then recoated.
  1. Removal of Impurities:
Recycled powder must pass through a sieving machine to remove impurities before being mixed with new powder at a specific ratio for reuse.
  1. Avoiding Powder Contamination:
The supply hopper, spray booth, and recovery system should be kept free from contamination by other types of powder. Therefore, it is essential to thoroughly clean the equipment when changing colors.
These precautions ensure that the powder coating process is executed with the highest quality and efficiency, resulting in durable and attractive coatings for a variety of applications.
